March 5-7 2004 Seattle Washington
Seatac Hilton Hotel Convention Center
Guests- Jed Brophy and Lawrence Makoare
Robin, Kasia, Aubrey and me, oh and the Ent too.
The convention started on Friday afternoon about 4pm. The schedule wasn't quite up to speed so we basically just walked around to see what was happening and if nothing was going on that we wanted to see we went to the dealer's room. There was a change last minute in the guests, Bernard Hill was supposed to be there but couldn't make it because of some last minute work so they got Lawrence. But that meant that the con booklet was wrong as they had already been printed. So, with all the changes we just did our best to see what we wanted and not miss too much stuff. They had about 8 rooms with stuff going on all the time so it was inevitable that you'd miss stuff. And since I haven't yet mastered my cloning technology I just did my best. I think we did ok and saw most of what we wanted but with all the roaming and moving around I really didn't take too many pictures. But I did get enough to entertain you for a while. So, sit back with your mug of Ale, put your hairy feet up and let me take you back to the days of... The Lord of the Rings.
Lawrence did a panel as Jed wasn't ready yet. Afterward he signed autographs and took pictures with us. Lawrence played the first Uruk-hai called Lurtz, he was the Witch King, he was also the head of the Fell Beast riders and I think there was one other role in there too. He gets around.
Robin and Kasia had dressed in costume but I was going for the relaxed look. Robin does look great and Lucky looks amazing as ever. Lawrence loved Lucky and thought it was a cute idea. Robin got some pics too but she hasn't sent them to me yet so I'll be adding those when I get them.
The dinner banquet was ok but a bit disorganized. All the main guests were there though. They didn't have enough food or seating for everyone for some reason. You were supposed to have chosen what kind of dinner you wanted, beef, chicken, or vegetarian. Well, lots of people never knew you had a choice and were supposed to tell them what you wanted. They, like me, probably figured it was a buffet. So, when we got there there weren't enough meals made and the room was a bit too small and crowded. I didn't get to sit with my friends cause there were only random seats left open at every table. But all in all it was ok.
They made a few announcements and some toasts were made to the guests and the organizers. Then Jed and Lawrence made a toast to us, the fans, and this was them raising their glasses to us.
Lawrence tried to made rounds to some of the tables to talk to the fans but once he got talking it was hard to stop him so he only made it to about 2 tables. It was sweet of him to get out there though.
Then these 2 came in, a dragon and Gimli. Well, Jed and Lawrence had fun with these 2 and got lots of laughs.
Poor Jed, he was the butt of a few jokes but he took it well.
The dinner ended pretty early so I headed out to Seattle to go see a band at the Fenix. Things really didn't start till 10 or 11 Saturday so I wasn't worried.
